October 17, 2023.- Following the impact and conversation generated by her documentary, “En Busca del Corazón Azul” or “In Search of the Blue Heart”, journalist and documentary filmmaker Amelia Deschamps was invited to a meeting with the director of Mining Promotion of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Golye Latouf, to discuss the condition of the #Larimar Mine: its risks and vulnerabilities, what is being done and what needs to be done.
“An extensive, productive and revealing meeting” in the journalist’s words.
In the meeting, Latouf explained in detail all the projects and actions that are being implemented to improve the conditions of the mine, most of which are developed externally, but which also have an impact on the day-to-day life of the miners.
However, large-scale investments to improve conditions inside the larimar mine remain unfinished business, although there are plans on the agenda.
“Once again: it’s about #RiskManagement. That we avoid trying to put the “padlock” when it is too late” insisted Amelia Deschamps while thanking the openness of the authorities in this meeting and the interest shown in leaving open the channels of conversation to escalate it to other spaces of discussion.
The Mines Coordinator, Lenin Melo, also participated in the meeting.
