“When I have a little bit of LARIMAR on my neck or a #LARIMAR earring, the meaning I have from this moment on is different from the one I had.” Journalist Edith Febles shares her impression of the documentary “In Search of the Blue Heart” which shows the work of the #LARIMAR miner and the way the exclusive DR National Stone is extracted (there is no other record of there being anywhere else in the world).
“This is a matter that IF THE GOVERNMENT WANTS, dignifies it with little, because it is a NATIONAL GOOD. Barahona has many workers and laborers in that” says Edith.
“In Search of the Blue Heart” or “En Busca del Corazón Azul” shows the life of the Dominican larimar miner through the story of Daniel: father of eleven children, who dives every day in the dangerous and rustic tunnels of the mine “Los Chupaderos” in Barahona, in search of LARIMAR. This semi-precious “blue-sea” colored stone is exclusive to this mountain in the Dominican Republic.
For Daniel, this is his last chance. After 32 years working as a piquero, Daniel is looking for his last extraction to retire.
BlueHeart premiered at DOC NYC in New York (the largest documentary festival in the US) and has won several awards, including “Best Short Documentary” at the Fine Arts Film Festival “Hecho en RD and at the Florence Film Awards.
